Rabat – The Moroccan citizens will no longer have to travel to their hometowns to obtain their original birth certificates. The Ministry of Interior has finally launched distribution counters across Morocco where citizens will be able to obtain their birth certificate.
The long-awaited service enabling the issuance of marital status certificates online will make it possible for Moroccans to obtain their birth certificates in both French and Arabic by accessing https://www.watiqa.ma.
The new service, called “Watiqa,” will help citizens save time and effort, and enable them to obtain marital status certificates from electronic counters and pay the fees online.
The payments can be made using a Morocco registered bank card or an international bank card and soon via Short Message Service SMS.
Applicants will be able to receive their requested marital status documents via registered mail in Morocco and abroad without the hassle of visiting the service centers.
The project is expected to significantly reduce the burden on citizens and enable them to access services and request documents anywhere and anytime.
In the past, Moroccans had to travel to the place where they had been registered in order to obtain their birth certificates.
In 2015, Casablanca launched the service, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Industry, Trade, Investment and Digital Economy, and Barid Al Maghrib. It was part of an overall strategy to improve services the without the need of citizens to be present at communes for the certificates.
